Anyone who has ever owned a low to mid ranged Android device knows that storage space can be a real issue in those devices. While getting a new device can be a bit costly, most of us just settle for a fewer number of apps on our devices. However, we can remedy this problem quite easily by just expanding the internal storage of our Android device with the help of an external SD card. The whole procedure is quite simple and doesn’t really take too much effort on the user’s part as demonstrated in the tutorial given below.
How to Expand the Internal Storage of Android Devices
Prerequisites: Before beginning kindly ensure that you have root privileges as well as SuperSU installed on your device.
Tutorial:
- Connect your SD card to your computer via a card reader and format it into two partitions using a software such as MiniTool Partition for Windows.
- Use the software to create one secondary Fat32 partition along with a primary ext2/ext3/ext4 partition (ext2 is the better choice as it works for all ROMs). Just make sure that the Fat32 partition is larger than the ext partition.
- Pop your SD card back into your phone and install an app called Link2SD from the Play Store onto your device.
- Once installed, open the app (remember to grant the app root access when prompted to do so). The app will ask you to pick a format, choose the ext format you formatted your SD card’s primary partition to.
- Follow the on screen instructions, if any and reboot your device after the app asks you to. Once rebooted, rerun the app and if there’s no such message again, you’re all good to go.
- Now, just go into the settings of the app and turn on Auto Linking so that all future apps will be automatically placed in your device’s virtual internal storage (which is really your SD card’s primary partition).
Tip: You can also use Link2SD to move already installed apps to the virtual internal storage thus clearing up some more precious internal storage space for your device.
And that concludes our tutorial on how to expand the internal storage of Android devices with ease.
